Designer: Cherie Rose
Susan Barton moved to California from Virginia nine months ago, fell in love with Los Gatos and found a small house to begin her new life here. One day she decided to explore the town of Los Gatos and happened upon a unique furniture store called “The Rose Collection.”
“As I entered the store, I happened to meet the owner of the store, Cherie Rose, and felt a synergy between us almost immediately.” says Susan. “I explained to Cherie that I had just moved here and was just in need of a few items, i.e., a small table, some curtains – not much. Cherie offered to come to my home for a consultation and as she reviewed my home, she listened to my dreams for each room. I had not realized Cherie Rose’s talent with remodeling homes until we discussed my real desires.”
“Cherie was able to bring my dreams alive by remodeling my bathrooms, adding new windows, replacing the roof, the stucco, resurfacing my fireplace and adding beautiful antique glass in my kitchen cabinets for a charming appeal. One of the simplest most dramatic changes took place in the living/dining room area where Cherie installed a “mirrored wall” to give the effect and appearance of more open space” states Susan. “All light fixtures were changed in the house, and walls were textured with a faux paint which tied the whole house together with an energy you cannot describe.”
As she spoke with Susan, Cherie revealed how she had a vision for grapevines in the kitchen. Cherie’s connection with an artist brought this vision alive in a painting in Susan’s kitchen as well as a painting of a 3-D mural on the outside garage (which she could see through her french doors). “The mural is a dramatic, elegant painting depicting my life and the things that matter most to me.” says Susan. “A type of magic was created in my home.”
The bedrooms were also created with different themes – Africa for one of Susan’s son’s rooms and a Moroccan Palace for her own. Susan said, “The expression of my dreams and the depth of myself came alive in this transformation and my home is a very nurturing place for my family.” Because of this unique transformation, Susan named her home, “Casa de la Rosa” in honor of Cherie’s work and for the special meaning…”if you walk into my doors, forever your life will be changed.”
